Germany is one of the few countries in which unemployment rates have declined continuously, and across all education levels, between 2005 and 2010 and between 2010 and 2012. Between 2005 and 2012, unemployment rates decreased by 7 percentage points among adults without upper secondary education (from 20.1% to 12.8%), by 6 percentage points among those with an upper secondary or post-secondary non-tertiary education (from 11.0% to 5.3%), and by 3 percentage points among those with a tertiary qualification (from 5.6% to 2.4%). By contrast, on average across OECD countries, unemployment rates increased during the same period. In 2012, unemployment rates at the different levels of education in Germany were below the OECD averages.
Germany is a hub for higher education and a paradise for students. The opportunities are limitless for those with clear ambitions. Every year, thousands of students from all around the world trust their education to German universities, and the reasons for this are clear.

Work Opportunities
Germany offers a wide array of job opportunities catering to students at various educational levels, graduates, and professionals. Germany annually offers around 300,000 work permits to foreign students. International students have plenty of work-study options including on-campus and off-campus jobs, co-op positions, and internships. Students are eligible to work after graduation, requiring a Post-Graduation Work Permit (PGWP) which costs $255 CAD to apply for. A post-graduation work permit in Germany enables graduates to gain work experience after their studies and serves as a pathway to Permanent Residency (PR) through the Express Entry system. The PGWP is usually issued for the same duration as the study program, with a maximum of 3 years.
